Project Overview

In 2015, dooConsult won a public tender for the procurement of consultancy services for the development of a new strategy for e-commerce in Post of Serbia, a national postal operator

After a year-long pause and internal decision process, dooConsult and its design studio, doointeractive, were invited to join and lead the project of developing the e-commerce multistore platform and its first online shop. The online shop would feature products already sold in Post of Serbia’s PostShop network of postal outlets.

Over the next 12 months, we successfully completed the platform and the first store. We managed an in-house team consisting of several members of the board and top management, project managers, as well as multiple specialist teams in the IT department, post and parcel, financials, international transport, and customs.

Integration of Magento platform and SAP (FI and WM) and PostNet

The Magento-powered e-commerce solution was actually the easy part of the job in comparison to the unexpected process workflow requirements and the specific setup of SAP and its core modules, along with the main company platform, PostNet. Our previous experience with SAP projects helped a lot. We made a number of specific cron jobs that were paired with additional triggers within SAP and PostNet to accommodate all the requirements regarding SAP FI and very rigid SAP WM setup along with the legal constraint of keeping this new business unit within the main government-owned public enterprise and not in a separate limited liability company. This, in turn, affected the payment and return modules and processes. In the end, we successfully implemented the entire proposed workflow with only few minutes of downtime in the middle of the night for execution of Magento cron jobs, outside of working hours for all the physical stores to process product returns and in-house purchases, and the time slots for execution of cron jobs within SAP FI and WM.
